A high-end EF3 wedge tornado caused major damage in Coal City. Numerous homes were damaged or destroyed, including a few that were leveled or swept away (though vehicles parked at those homes remained untouched). A large metal high-tension truss tower was collapsed as well. At least 7 people were injured. Coal City was heavily damaged by an EF2 tornado during the November 17, 2013 tornado outbreak as well.
